Olmesartan (40mg)
OLMISTRUM is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). By blocking the action of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, olmesartan relaxes blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart. This can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes, as well as other complications associated with high blood pressure, such as kidney damage.
Mechanism of Action
OLMISTRUM works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors found in many tissues, particularly in vascular smooth muscles and the adrenal gland. Angiotensin II is a key regulator of blood pressure and fluid balance. By inhibiting its effects, olmesartan causes vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and reduces the secretion of aldosterone, leading to decreased blood pressure.
Uses
Hypertension: OLMISTRUM is used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children over the age of 6. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
Dosage and Administration
OLMISTRUM is available in various strengths and is usually taken once daily, with or without food. The dose depends on the patient's condition, age, and response to treatment. It's important to take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it, and to continue taking it even if you feel well, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms.
