LOSASTRUM is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). LOSASTRUM is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), reduce the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy (enlargement of the heart's left ventricle), and to treat kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes who have hypertension or proteinuria (the presence of excessive protein in the urine). LOSASTRUM works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a chemical in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten and narrow. By blocking the effects of angiotensin II, LOSASTRUM helps to relax and widen blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
Uses of Losartan Potassium
Hypertension: LOSASTRUM is used to lower high blood pressure, which helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
Protecting Kidneys: It is used to protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes.
Heart Failure: LOSASTRUM is also used to treat heart failure, though it's not a first-line treatment for this condition.

Mechanism of Action
LOSASTRUM works by blocking the receptors for angiotensin II (AT1 receptors). Angiotensin II is a substance in the body that, when bound to these receptors, causes blood vessels to constrict, leading to increased blood pressure. By inhibiting the action of angiotensin II, losartan causes vasodilation (widening of the blood vessels), which lowers blood pressure and decreases the workload on the heart.
Administration and Dosage
LOSASTRUM is typically taken orally, once or twice a day, with or without food.
