TELMISTRUM AM

TELMISTRUM AM is an oral medication used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). TELMISTRUM AM
employs two drugs with different mechanisms of action to achieve more effective blood pressure control than either medication alone, particularly in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.
Components
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten and narrow. By preventing angiotensin II from binding to its receptors, telmisartan causes blood vessels to relax and widen, which lowers blood pressure.
Amlodipine belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers (CCBs). It works by relaxing the smooth muscles of the blood vessels, which allows them to dilate (widen). This reduces the pressure within the vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood, and thus, lowers blood pressure.
Indications
TELMISTRUM AM
is specifically indicated for the treatment of hypertension in patients who are not adequately controlled on monotherapy and as initial therapy in patients who are likely to need multiple drugs to achieve their blood pressure goals. The use of combined therapies like telmisartan and amlodipine can improve compliance by reducing the number of pills a patient needs to take.
Dosage and Administration
Telmisartan and amlodipine are available in fixed-dose combination tablets, which come in various strengths to accommodate different dosing needs. The selection of dose should be individualized based on the patient's response to treatment, with the goal of achieving the desired blood pressure control. It is generally taken once daily, with or without food.
