OLMISTRUM LN is used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). This medication combines two agents with different mechanisms of action to more effectively lower blood pressure, potentially reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes.
Cilnidipine
Cilnidipine is a unique type of calcium channel blocker (CCB) that not only blocks L-type calcium channels (found in vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle) but also N-type calcium channels (found in sympathetic nerve terminals). This dual blocking action helps in reducing blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and also potentially reducing the release of norepinephrine, which can decrease sympathetic activity leading to further vasodilation.
Olmesartan Medoxomil
Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, Olmesartan Medoxomil helps relax blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.
Uses
OLMISTRUM LN is indicated for the treatment of hypertension in patients who are not adequately controlled with monotherapy and could benefit from the combined effects of both medications. OLMISTRUM LN can be more convenient for patients, potentially improving adherence to treatment by reducing the number of pills they need to take.
