Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the action of leukotrienes, which are chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the airways), and mucus production in the lungs.
It is primarily used for the maintenance treatment of asthma and to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis (year-round allergies).
Montelukast is usually taken orally in the form of tablets or chewable tablets, and it is often prescribed for both adults and children.
Ebastine is a non-sedating antihistamine. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergy symptoms such as itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
It is used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis (hay fever), allergic conjunctivitis (eye allergies), and chronic idiopathic urticaria (chronic hives of unknown cause).
Ebastine is usually taken orally in the form of tablets or oral solution. It is also available in combination with pseudoephedrine, a decongestant, for the treatment of nasal congestion associated with allergies.
