TRIMETAZ CR is a unique anti-anginal medication that enhances the heart's metabolism and improves its efficiency, particularly under stress or ischemic conditions. Unlike traditional anti-anginal drugs that mainly work by dilating blood vessels or reducing the heart's workload, TRIMETAZ CR acts on the cellular level to optimize energy production. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of ischemic heart disease (IHD), including angina pectoris, and to some extent, for certain types of vertigo and tinnitus associated with vestibular disorders.
Mechanism of Action:
TRIMETAZ CR works by inhibiting fatty acid oxidation and facilitating glucose oxidation. During ischemic conditions, when oxygen supply is limited, glucose oxidation requires less oxygen per ATP molecule produced than fatty acid oxidation. By shifting the myocardial energy substrate preference towards glucose, TRIMETAZ CR makes heart energy production more efficient under hypoxic conditions, thereby reducing the frequency of angina attacks.
Indications:
Management of angina pectoris: TRIMETAZ CR is used as an adjunct treatment for patients with angina pectoris who have not adequately responded to or cannot tolerate first-line antianginal agents.
It may also be used for certain vestibular disorders, where indicated and approved, to reduce symptoms of tinnitus and vertigo.
