Purpose: Granisetron hydrochloride belongs to a class of medications called 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, which work by blocking the action of serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in triggering nausea and vomiting. By blocking serotonin receptors in the gut and central nervous system, granisetron helps to prevent chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and radiation-induced nausea and vomiting (RINV).
