TELMISTRUM 80 H Telmisartan (80mg)+ HCTZ 12.5 mg TELMISTRUM 40 H is a medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). TELMISTRUM 80 H utilizes two drugs with complementary mechanisms of action to more effectively lower blood pressure than either medication alone, which can be particularly beneficial for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. Telmisartan Overview Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation (widening of the blood vessels) and reduced blood pressure. It also reduces aldosterone secretion, decreasing sodium and water retention in the kidneys. Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) Overview HCTZ is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps reduce blood pressure by causing the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt through the urine. This action decreases blood volume, leading to lower blood pressure. Thiazide diuretics are often used in combination with other antihypertensive agents for a synergistic effect. TELMISTRUM 80 H offers a dual mechanism of action in managing hypertension: Telmisartan acts on the renin-angiotensin system, reducing vascular resistance and blood volume. HCTZ enhances the antihypertensive effect by further reducing blood volume and sodium levels, leading to additional blood pressure reduction. Indications TELMISTRUM 80 H is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, especially in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. It is also used as an initial therapy in patients who are likely to need multiple drugs to achieve their blood pressure goals.
